Gideon! You are 13 months old. Where has the time gone?
The biggest news this month is that you've decided to start talking! Crazy. You, your brother, and I were out shopping and when we were checking out, you said "hi!" to the cashier. Like you'd done it before a million times. It was shocking and amazing. You've been saying it a lot ever since {usually at our prompting because it's so darn cute and we're still in awe that you're talking}. You've also been saying "this" {which you pronounce "dis"} all the time. With no prompting. Every time you pick up something and hold it out to one of us, you say "dis." So stinking cute. I've also been trying to get you to say "uh oh" when something falls, since you love to drop things and knock things over. You said it the other day when I dropped something and it was hilarious and perfect and made me squeal in delight. You're so smart, buddy!
It was quite a month for us, Little One. You got sick right around your birthday and stayed sick for nearly the entire month. For a whole week, the only thing you wanted to do was to be held in my lap and sleep all day. It was heartbreaking and we missed your sweet smile and happy disposition so much! Right when you started kicking the virus, you started cutting two teeth {yay teeth!} at the same time, and were miserable. Those popped few just a few days ago, and we were overjoyed to know that you were feeling better and to have our happy baby back again.
Before you got sick, it seemed like walking was imminent. You took 10 steps in a row one night! But being ill kept you inactive for a long time and, as a result, we're kind of back to square one. You're cruising around the furniture at top speed and are getting more brave about letting go of one piece of furniture and taking a step to reach something else to hold on to. You're rediscovered your walking toys and you and Jonah have had a blast racing around the house with them. So maybe it won't be much longer {but really. take your time. We are all excited for you to walk, but I know we're going to miss your adorable little crawl so much once you're walking!}
As I mentioned before, you cut two new teeth this month. The front tooth on the top right and the one right next to it. You're still in some 12 month clothes, but your 18 months fit a lot better. Some of your 12 month shirts have to strain a little to fit over your little belly.
You love doing what Jonah does. You want to play with the toys he plays with or look at the books he's reading. I think it's pretty cute, but Jonah isn't quite there yet. He is delighted, however, whenever you talk or laugh. He loves to give you hugs and kisses {which you don't always enjoy}. It's so fun watching y'alls relationship deepen.
You also absolutely love water. We finally had to take your bath chair out of the tub because you were crawling out of it every time. Your first bath with no chair was so fun. You were so excited! You crawled all through the water, dipped your face in, blew bubbles, splashed and laughed the whole time. It was so adorable and fun to watch! I think bath time is one of your favorite times of the day. Luckily for you, because you're such a messy eater, you sometimes get two baths a day!
Here's where you are compared to other kids your age:
