Up All Night- The Growing Prysocks

5 Year Anniversary!

Filed under: , , , , by: David and Stephanie

One of the main reasons we went to Tulsa was for David and I to have an over-night date to celebrate our 5 year anniversary. We found a groupon deal for a cute bed and breakfast in Tulsa and my parents graciously agreed to watch Jonah for the night.

My rendition of the Kennedy B&B. J/K. Some random guy did it.

We arrived around eight Monday evening and walked around the {really beautiful} grounds.

Awkward couple self portrait attempt: Take one!

Success!

Kissing!
Next, we wandered up to our {lovely} room.

"I sat and forever am at work here"

It really was a wonderful place. The staff was super nice and we had a great evening. Unfortunately {for me}, I have a really overactive imagination. And we were in an old mansion. And horror movies and ghosts and murder and did I mention we watched "Contagion" and now the fomites are killing me too and there was no sleeping for Stephanie until the sun came up but at least "17 Again" was on?

Ugh.

But you know what is great after a night of minimal sleep?

Breakfast.

Yesssss

David with the sensible omelet.

Me with the not sensible french toast. I think we know who won here.

All in all it was a wonderful, relaxing evening. I can't believe I've been blessed enough to spend five whole years with my very best friend.

Love you so very much, David.
You're my favorite.

Tulsa!

Over Memorial Day weekend, we were Tulsa bound! David took an extra day off and we drove up to see the Yorks and take advantage of their {newly installed!} pool.

Fancy.

Sunset. At 70mph.

We got in late {read: 10pm} on Saturday, so no swimming was had.  But we were up {read: Jonah was up} bright and early, so we hopped in the pool as soon as we could!

Michael Phelps, eat your heart out.

Since and Grammy and Papa were out of town until that evening, David and I had the pool to ourselves while Jonah went down for his morning nap.  Except for some mangy dog that wouldn't stop barking.

People. Learn to control your animals!

We tried to introduce Jonah to the pool when he woke up.  It didn't go great, so we didn't force it. Instead, we moved the party to the deck.

Are you sure you want to go through with this, son?

Jonah chatting with his peeps.

We also enjoyed some time on the porch. Grammy and Papa have a beautiful view on their front porch and have recently had three families of geese {complete with baby goslings!} on their land. It was fun to watch them splash in the pond.

Beesly. Super glad everyone is out of the demon water.

Once Jonah learned to stop worrying and love the pool, the entire rest of the weekend was spent in the water or on the porch.

Stop talking.

Even Beesly enjoyed some pool time!

What have you done??

There was also a LOT of eating. On Tuesday, Papa made his famous ribs. Ribs that I can't even talk about because they're too delicious and oh my goodness I want some right now!

Riiiiiiiiibs!

David. About to pounce on the ribs. Appropriate reaction.

Thanks guys! We had such a great time!

Except for Beesly. She's currently plotting our collective demise.

Swimming

We went up to Tulsa to visit Grammy and Papa York over Memorial Day.

It was a blast.

Since they just finished putting in a pool, David and I were really looking forward to introducing Jonah to the water.
All gussied up for the pool.

First, we just let him see the water.

Checking things out...

And then we put him in this fun floaty Grammy bought for him.

Not sure about this...

But once we gave him his favorite bath toy and Grammy started playing with him, he LOVED it.

Happy boy!
Grammy had a special wading area added to the pool just for Jonah {and future grandbabies, I'm assuming}. It was shaded, so we hung out there a lot.

We love swimming!

Too much cuteness for one picture.
Honestly, we were in the pool 99% of the time that weekend. It was great. And Jonah took some pretty epic naps. I guess all that "swimming" tired him out.

High fives for Grammy.
AND Jonah had his FIRST Popsicle! Don't let that hesitant expression fool you. He loved it. We were all surprised how quickly he ate it up.

Thanks for a GREAT {extended} weekend, Grammy and Papa! We had such a great time and can't wait to come visit again. In fact, if you ever need a house sitter, I know a baby that is pretty fond of your pool!

Jonah Videos!

Here's a couple fun videos of Jonah, in case you missed them on Facebook.

Jonah and Beesly have been playing more and getting along quite well.

Here's Jonah rehearsing for his role in a big-budget found-footage monster movie.

Jonah's 10 Month Post

Jonah.

You are 10 months old today and I can hardly believe it.  These 10 months have absolutely flown by and I am in a bit of denial that your first birthday is two short months away.

You started crawling the day before your nine month ‘birthday’ and it has been a complete game changer: you are so very active and are so very curious.  You can be sitting in the middle of the room happily playing with a toy and just moments later zooming towards the television or computer or some other forbidden gadget.  You’re definitely keeping us on our toes!  You also like to follow me throughout the house when I’m cleaning during the day.  I’ll leave the room and just a few moments later hear your little body shuffling towards me, usually punctuated by your sweet “Uh! Uh! Ooo!” vocalization.  It’s adorable and makes me smile every time.

On a similar note, one of our favorite family activities lately is hide and seek.  Daddy or I will hide our eyes and say, “where’s Jonah?” and you squeal, race towards us, and uncover our face.  We’ve even graduated the game to hiding in different rooms from you and you still love it.

You also love pulling up on furniture and cruising around the room.  You’ve been able to cruise for a few months now, but with your new ability to crawl you are cruising MUCH more.  You move from one piece of furniture to the other as quickly as you can crawl, pull up, cruise as far as you can, then drop to your knees and start the process over again.   It’s so fun to watch and definitely tires you out.

You're still wearing 9 month clothes and they fit JUST right.  I'm sure they'll be too small soon.  You tend to outgrow the length well before they get too snug.  Maybe you'll be tall like Mama and Daddy.

You’ve been playing with Beesly more and more and I love it.  You both love to wrestle over her Frisbee and you’ve started chasing after her now that you’re crawling.  She likes to race around the room and bring you toys to throw for her.  I think you know what you’re supposed to do {after all, you see Daddy and I play with her all the time} but you haven’t mastered that yet.  It doesn’t stop you from trying though!

I eased up on my fear of giving you finger foods this month: we dove in and tried Cheerios, Puffs, yogurt bites, egg yolks, cauliflower, carrots, green beans, oatmeal, and pieces of bread.  You’re doing so great with all of it; you love feeding yourself and love to eat.

You also got your FIRST tooth this month! I love seeing it whenever you smile, but you are very shy about showing it off.  Whenever we try to look at it you close your mouth and refuse to open up. I'm so glad I snapped this picture of your new, toothy grin!

Your sleeping seems to have evened out.  I’m terrified even to write this; as if writing it down and admitting it will somehow alert you to the fact that you have been sleeping through the night.  Like, sleeping all. Night. Long. You go down at about 7:30 and sleep until 7:30 {or later!}.  This has happened twelve nights in a row so far, but oh my.  I could get used to this.

Naps have gotten so much better, too!  You’ve been taking a long morning nap {90 min. or more!} and taking more consistent afternoon naps too.  I LOVE it.  It means I get more done throughout the day and then get to spend your wakeful time focused on you: which means more pictures and cuddles and quality time.  Amazing.

Things Jonah LOVES at Ten Months:
Yogurt bites
Beesly
Crawling
Pulling up on furniture
Trying to crawl somewhere forbidden {TV, computer, bathroom, etc.}
Stacking cups
Hide and Seek

Mastered Skills (most kids can do)
• Waves goodbye — Yes! You have to be prompted, but you're doing it. It's more of a whole arm shake, but it's stinkin' cute.
• Picks things up with pincer grasp — Yes.
• Crawls well, with belly off the ground —  So much yes.

Emerging Skills (half of kids can do)

• Says “mama” or “dada” to the right parent — You say “dada” all the time.  Some times it is actually to your Dad. You say “mama” when you’re upset.
• Indicates wants with gestures — Yes. You can definitely sign "more" and I think you're also trying to sign "all done" and "eat." Sometimes it's a bit of a guessing game.

Advanced Skills (a few kids can do)

• Stands alone for a couple of seconds — Yep. And getting much  better at it.
• Puts object in a container — Oh my goodness yes! You’ve helped put your toys in the toy basket several times and you love dropping blocks in your bucket.

Sweet Jonah, we love you so much.  I think I am running out of ways to say it, but it's true.  You bring us such joy and we love being your Mama and Daddy.  Sometimes we can't believe how lucky we are to have you.  Your sweet spirit is such a blessing to us and to everyone you meet.  Your curiosity is wonderful to witness; you've given us fresh eyes to see God's amazing creations.  As you grow each day, we learn more and more about you and about the One who created you.  We pray for the strength, wisdom, patience, and love to raise you up to be a man of God.

Happy Birthday!

Jonah is 10 months old today! I probably won't get a chance to get his official post up until Monday or Tuesday, but I wanted to have a picture of him on his ACTUAL birthday.

Jonah, we love you so very much.
