Jonah.
You are 10 months old today
and I can hardly believe it. These
10 months have absolutely flown by and I am in a bit of denial that your first
birthday is two short months away.
You started crawling the
day before your nine month ‘birthday’ and it has been a complete game changer:
you are so very active and are so very curious. You can be sitting in the middle of the room happily playing
with a toy and just moments later zooming towards the television or computer or
some other forbidden gadget. You’re definitely keeping us on our toes! You also like to follow me throughout
the house when I’m cleaning during the day. I’ll leave the room and just a few moments later hear your
little body shuffling towards me, usually punctuated by your sweet “Uh! Uh!
Ooo!” vocalization. It’s adorable
and makes me smile every time.
On a similar note, one of
our favorite family activities lately is hide and seek. Daddy or I will hide our eyes and say,
“where’s Jonah?” and you squeal, race towards us, and uncover our face. We’ve even graduated the game to hiding
in different rooms from you and you still love it.
You also love pulling up on
furniture and cruising around the room.
You’ve been able to cruise for a few months now, but with your new
ability to crawl you are cruising MUCH more. You move from one piece of furniture to the other as quickly
as you can crawl, pull up, cruise as far as you can, then drop to your knees
and start the process over again.
It’s so fun to watch and definitely tires you out.
You're still wearing 9 month clothes and they fit JUST right. I'm sure they'll be too small soon. You tend to outgrow the length well before they get too snug. Maybe you'll be tall like Mama and Daddy.

You’ve been playing with Beesly more and more and I love it. You both love to wrestle over her Frisbee and you’ve started chasing after her now that you’re crawling. She likes to race around the room and bring you toys to throw for her. I think you know what you’re supposed to do {after all, you see Daddy and I play with her all the time} but you haven’t mastered that yet. It doesn’t stop you from trying though!
I eased up on my fear of
giving you finger foods this month: we dove in and tried Cheerios, Puffs,
yogurt bites, egg yolks, cauliflower, carrots, green beans, oatmeal, and pieces of
bread. You’re doing so great with
all of it; you love feeding yourself and love to eat.
Your sleeping seems to have evened out. I’m terrified even to write this; as if writing it down and admitting it will somehow alert you to the fact that you have been sleeping through the night. Like, sleeping all. Night. Long. You go down at about 7:30 and sleep until 7:30 {or later!}. This has happened twelve nights in a row so far, but oh my. I could get used to this.
Naps have gotten so much
better, too! You’ve been taking a
long morning nap {90 min. or more!} and taking more consistent afternoon naps
too. I LOVE it. It means I get more done throughout the
day and then get to spend your wakeful time focused on you: which means more
pictures and cuddles and quality time.
Amazing.

Mastered Skills (most kids can do)
•
Waves goodbye — Yes! You have to be prompted, but you're doing it. It's more of a whole arm shake, but it's stinkin' cute.
• Picks things up with pincer grasp — Yes.
• Crawls well, with belly off the ground — So much yes.

Emerging Skills (half of kids can do)
•
Says “mama” or “dada” to the right parent — You say “dada” all the time. Some times it is actually to your Dad. You
say “mama” when you’re upset.
•
Indicates wants with gestures — Yes. You can definitely sign "more" and I think you're also trying to sign "all done" and "eat." Sometimes it's a bit of a guessing game.
Advanced Skills (a few kids can do)
•
Stands alone for a couple of seconds — Yep. And getting much better at it.
•
Puts object in a container — Oh my goodness yes! You’ve helped put your toys in
the toy basket several times and you love dropping blocks in your bucket.
Sweet Jonah, we love you so much. I think I am running out of ways to say it, but it's true. You bring us such joy and we love being your Mama and Daddy. Sometimes we can't believe how lucky we are to have you. Your sweet spirit is such a blessing to us and to everyone you meet. Your curiosity is wonderful to witness; you've given us fresh eyes to see God's amazing creations. As you grow each day, we learn more and more about you and about the One who created you. We pray for the strength, wisdom, patience, and love to raise you up to be a man of God.
