Up All Night- The Growing Prysocks

Christmas - The Aftermath

Filed under: , , by: David and Stephanie

As we {read: David} were packing up the car, I realized that we {read: Stephanie} were going to have to do quite a bit of reorganizing when we got home. We all received so many wonderful presents and Jonah was especially spoiled; there was simply no way that all his new toys and clothes were going to fit into his room without a complete overhaul.

Maybe most people aren't like this, but I can't seem to take on a project like this without first making everything worse. For most of the week, Jonah's room has been a complete disaster.

But today, Jonah and I got to work.

{Sitting up and playing with toys like a boss}

He played contentedly on the floor while I sifted through the piles of clothes {old and new} and toys.

After working so darn hard, Jonah needed a nap. While he was down, I sorted through all his newborn and three month clothes so I could make room for the clothes that actually fit.

{Just a small portion of what I sorted through}

I was very nostalgic as I packed away all the tiny outfits. It's so bittersweet to watch Jonah growing up. I'm so excited to be a witness to all the great new things he's doing and experiencing every day, but I sometimes find myself missing the tiny newborn we brought home {almost} six months ago.

Christmas

For as long as David and I have been together, Christmas has been a big deal. It's our favorite time of year and we have many {many} traditions that punctuate the season. Watching specific movies on specific days, looking at Christmas lights, listening to certain CDs, attending Christmas Eve service, participating in Advent, and setting up the tree are just some of the things that we look forward to every year.

{Christmas tree on Christmas Eve}

We were so excited to share it all with Jonah.

Admittedly, he's a little young to appreciate most of our traditions. And, because having a five month-old doesn't lend itself well to sitting uninterrupted for two hours, we've had to skip our Christmas movies this year {except watching 'Christmas Vacation'. That simply couldn't be missed}.

But there are other things that Jonah certainly does appreciate about Christmastime. He loves the bright lights on the Christmas tree and really enjoys playing with and ringing the silver bells that decorate our house. It's so much fun to watch him grab a bell with those tiny hands and shake it as hard as he can.

We spent this Christmas with the Yorks in Oklahoma {with a special Christmas Eve appearance from the Senfs!}. It was nice to finally make a trip up to see them and especially nice to spend Christmas with them. They were excited to love on Jonah and get some quality time with their grandbaby.

We weren't sure what to expect when Christmas morning came around. And even though he's just a baby, I think he had a blast. He opened presents and played with toys and even managed to take a nice nap after all the festivities were completed.

{He loves it!}

It was a wonderful Christmas and we were so happy to spend it with family. We hope everyone else had a wonderful Christmas as well!

Sweet Potatoes

Filed under: , , , by: David and Stephanie

After dragging my feet for quite awhile, I finally caved and decided to start Jonah on solids. There were a lot of reasons for me to wait. Some were good and some were slightly silly. But I'm so glad we did wait as long as we did because we got to skip rice cereal completely and go straight to purees {sweet potato, if you're curious}.

And Jonah absolutely loved it.

I'm not going to type {too} much up front. I think the plethora of pictures speak {mostly} for themselves.

{Jonah preparing for the first bite}

{So excited!}

{Starting to enjoy it}

{Happy boy1}

Seriously, this was so much fun. David and I were both prepared for Jonah to dislike the food and perhaps to fuss about eating. What we got was the total opposite. He really enjoyed himself and even opened his mouth wide for more bites several times. We loved watching him discover something new and feel so blessed to have such a sweet, easy-going baby.

Love you, sweet man! We're so excited to see you grow and learn and experience new things. We are so amazingly blessed to have you in our lives and we thank God for you every single day!

Happiest Place on Earth

Filed under: , , , by: David and Stephanie

Sunday, we went to one of my favorite places ever:

Ikea.

We wanted to pick up a few plates, cups and bowls for Jonah as well as a few wooden toys for his stocking.

Thankfully, our sweet friends Jordan and April also have a deep and abiding love for Swedish furniture. They joined us, as they needed a fancy new coffee table and we're so glad they did.

Ikea is definitely {one of} the happiest places on earth.

This was Jonah's first time experiencing Ikea so clearly we needed to document:

{Jonah and David amazed by the great deals on dinnerware}

{Clearly overcome by emotion}

{Awww}

Jonah was cuddled close to Daddy for most of the trip and even managed to take a nap. Towards the end of our {awesome} adventure, he woke up and was able to experience some of what Ikea has to offer:

David grabbed my camera right at the end of our trip to document that I was there:

Starting Solids?

Filed under: , , by: David and Stephanie

David and I are thinking about starting Jonah on solids.

I've been putting it off for awhile because technically babies don't need to start solids until they're about six months old. Plus, Jonah didn't seem to be that interested in the process. {At least that's what I told myself.} He has been 100% content with nursing. {Perhaps denial.}

So today, after he tried to jack my milkshake at Mooyah, we decided that we might need to pick up a high chair.

A few dollars later {consignment store. holla!}, we have a high chair.

It. Is. Awesome.

Jonah LOVES it. He has been hanging out in it all day perfectly content. Amazing.

In fact, for your viewing pleasure, here is what Jonah thinks of his high chair:

{Insert obligatory "my baby is growing up too fast" comment here}

Since he loves his high chair, I thought I'd see what he thought about pretend eating. I mean, one of the recommendations for starting solids is that the baby leans in to take the food, therefore this was not completely insane {Again, denial}.

So. Here is what Jonah thinks about "eating" from a spoon:

Not sure how this is gonna go.

But we'll keep you updated.

Blessed.

There have been a lot of interesting developments in the Prysock household in the past week. Developments that have left David and I feeling overwhelmed and confused. But in the midst of confusion and intense decision-making, we recognize that we are so very blessed.

Blessed to have each other. Blessed to have friends and family who love us so much.

And we are so thankful for a sweet son who brings us pure joy in times of uncertainty.

Jonah's Five Month Post

Filed under: , , by: David and Stephanie

Our baby boy is five months old today.

He has grown so much in the last month!

{Jonah with his newborn doll. So big!}

He's been busy rolling over, grabbing his little feet, passing toys from one hand to another and attempting to sit up all by himself!

It was quite a month of firsts for Little Man! He had his first Thanksgiving, his first experience in the church nursery, and helped decorate his first Christmas tree.

{Our cuddle bug.}

He is so alert and watches every little thing we do. He loves being with his Mama and Daddy. His entire face lights up every time we look at him.

{Finally being able to play with his mini-me!}

Things Jonah Loves at Five Months

Peek-a-boo

Dancing with Mama

Belly Button Book

Blowing raspberries

Conversations with Mama and Daddy

Sticking out his tongue

His voice: he loves to squeal and giggle and screech

Watching Beesly and trying to pet her

His Daddy: anything he does is absolutely hilarious

Jonah, we are so blessed to have you! It is so much fun watching you learn every day. You are developing such a fun little personality and are such a happy, sweet baby! Your daddy and I love watching you laugh, which you do almost constantly these days. You bring such joy to our lives and we are so excited to see what the rest of this wonderful first year brings!

Decorating for Christmas: Part Two

Filed under: , , , , , by: David and Stephanie

We were {finally} able to decorate the Christmas tree Friday night! It's always been one of my favorite traditions and I've loved sharing that with David. I was extremely excited to have Jonah help us decorate this year and, of course, had to document with eleventy billion pictures.

Here's a {very} small sampling:

Decorating for Christmas: Part One

Filed under: , , , by: David and Stephanie

After we returned from Mississippi, we debated not buying a tree. We knew that we would be out of town for a pretty big chunk of December and thought we could save a little money buy skipping it this year.

But, in the end, it made us too sad. Decorating the tree is one of our favorite traditions and we were excited to have Jonah be a part of it.

As we've discovered, doing anything with a baby takes {a lot} more time than normal, so we decided to separate the fun into two days.

Double the Christmas cheer, right?

Silly Jonah

Filed under: , , by: David and Stephanie

Jonah has lately been extremely fond of sucking on his thumbs and fingers. David and I have been trying to discourage this {adorable} behavior by substituting his pacifier as often as we can.

While I was unpacking from our Thanksgiving adventure, Jonah was playing in his swing, sucking on his thumb. Every time I noticed, I would walk around the bed and give him his pacifier instead.

And each time I would walk back to the suitcases, I would turn around and see Jonah pull this pacifier out of his mouth and start giggling.

Every. Single. Time.

So mischievous.

And adorable.

Visitors

Today Jonah's Grammy and Papa came through town for a quick visit. It's been almost two months since they've seen their grandson so they were really excited to spend a little time with him.
