Up All Night- The Growing Prysocks

Jonah's 8 Month Post

Filed under: by: David and Stephanie

Jonah.
You're eight months old and I can hardly believe it. We {of course} had another wonderful month. You grew and explored and learned so much!

You are so much more active this month! You've been rolling from back to front, from front to back, pushing up on your knees and rocking, and quasi-cruising around our coffee table {you held on and took a few small steps, but I don't know if that officially counts}.  You pulled up from sitting to standing a few weeks ago and it was amazing.  It came completely out of the blue and I loved watching how excited it made you.

You’re getting more and more vocal every day.  You do a lot of "dee dee da da deeeee" sounds, "ba ba" sounds and, of course, "mama". You’re also starting to squeal and screech and my goodness it is LOUD. But I love to hear your little voice. It’s so exciting and mind-blowing to think that in a very short time, you may be saying actual words on purpose.

{Uh oh.  This could prove to be troublesome.}

You also seem to be recognizing certain signs, like “eat” and “water.” I also think you know “more,” but can’t be sure. But when I sign “more” to you, you get very, very excited, so I think that you do.

Speaking of water, you are getting so good at drinking out of all different kinds of cups. You have two sippy cups and you seem to do well with both. I have been letting you test out straws as well, and you got the hang of those quickly.  You’re also pretty good at drinking out of an open cup as long as we hold it for you.

We introduced fruits this month and you were way less excited about them than I thought you'd be.  Don't get me wrong, you like to eat, but I almost expected that first taste of fruity sweetness to get you pretty jazzed up.  Like all things, however, you took it in stride.  We've introduced pears, bananas, prunes, apple, raspberries, pumpkin and oatmeal and I don't think you have any particular favorites.  Food is food and, for the most part, you're not impressed.

Your nighttime sleep has been a little crazy lately. One night last week you slept for 12 hours straight — 7:30 to 7:30!  And then another night you woke up twice and stayed awake from about 2am-4am.  Silly boy, you need sleep!  You’re naps are getting a little bit better.  More frequently I'm able to get you down for 30 minutes and even sometimes as long as an hour!  I wouldn't say that naps and sleeping at night is going perfectly, but since you're such a happy baby, we’re trying to roll with it.

Jonah, I love being your mama so very much.  I can't tell you enough what a blessing it is to see you growing and learning and exploring each day.  Your personality has been slowly emerging these past several months and I feel like I am learning more about you each day.  I love how easy going and relaxed you can be.  I love how quick you are to smile and seeing how much you love your daddy and me.  I love what a rough and tumble little boy you are {even if that means more bumps and scrapes for me to worry over}.  I can't wait to learn even more.
Love you, Buddy.
