I'm having trouble believing that you're really one. That this day is actually here. The day that God
gave us one of the most amazing blessings in the entire world. Jonah Matthew, we love you so dearly. You are precious and wonderful and
sometimes I feel like I will explode with sheer joy just looking at you.
This has been a pretty
wonderful month. You love to
read. Just a few days ago, I
walked in to get you in the morning and the FIRST thing you did was say “bum”
{book} and make the sign for “book.” You are perfectly content to perch in Mama
or Daddy’s lap and be read to all day.
I actually am not sure how long you’d last because you have always
outlasted Daddy and me. If we
aren’t able to read to you, you love to flip through them by yourself.

So big! |
You also love putting
things into and taking things out of containers. You love helping me sort the laundry and put things in the
basket. You help pick up your toys
and you love to empty out any dresser drawer you can manage to open. It should probably frustrate me, but
you always look so proud and happy when I catch you, I can’t help but praise
your hard work.
You are getting so much
more steady when we practice walking.
Everyone says it won’t be long now before you take your first steps, but
I can wait a little longer. You’re so precocious already and I know that
walking is going to be a whole new world.
Sleeping has been amazing. I am astonished every time we put you in your crib these days: you roll over and go right to sleep. It's so different from the first nine months of your life when every naptime was so hard on us both. I'm so grateful that you finally realize how awesome sleep is. Typically, you take two 1 1/2-2hr naps during the day and sleep about 12 hours at night.
Ah-mazing.
You seem to be over your
separation anxiety completely, which is wonderful. You’re so cheerful and happy and it’s great to see that
being with others doesn’t hinder your sweet personality.
You are such a good eater.
You will eat anything we put in front of you and I love that. I love that fruits and veggies are the norm for you and I hope that we can continue to teach you about healthy eating.
You love to mimic these days. Sounds and facial expressions tend to have you mesmerized and you love figuring out how to do what we do. It's hilarious and you get such a kick out of communicating with us this way. You are still quite the talker too; you've added a few words to your repertoire and it's pretty rare to find you not babbling {In fact, if you're silent it typically means you're up to something. Love it.}.
Sunday we are
having your first birthday party.
We’re just having family over and your grandparents drove in from
Mississippi and Oklahoma to see you and love on you. Daddy and I are so excited to celebrate you.

Here is where you're falling on the milestone chart:
Mastered Skills (most kids can do)
• Imitates others’ activities — Oh
yes.
• Indicates wants with gestures — You
sign “more” all. The. Time. Does that count?
Emerging Skills (some kids can do)
• Takes a few steps — Your walking is
getting GREAT! As long as we’re holding your hands. You also cruise all around
the furniture now {more than you used to}, but you haven’t taken a step
independently yet.
• Says one word besides “mama” and “dada” — Yes! You have said “dog” {“duh”} and book {“bum”} and all done {“ah duh”} and I think you’re trying to say more {mo} and ball {“ba”}. You love to talk.

Advanced Skills (a few kids can do)
• Walks alone — Not yet. {no rush,
buddy. Take your time}
• Scribbles with a crayon — I gave you a colored pencil to “sign” Daddy’s father’s Day card this month and you scribbled a little. So I say yes.

Jonah, I love you so very much. I could go on for hours about how amazing this year
was. It’s incredible to think that just one year ago we were only
beginning to know you and understand what a joy you were. From that first moment I lifted you to
my chest, you had my heart.
You are precious and wonderful and I am the luckiest. I love being your
mama. I love our new, little
family. I am so excited to see
what this next year will bring. My prayer, as always is that God continues to work mightily in
your life. That He would chase after your heart and call you to Him. And that you would always know how loved and cherished you are.
