The following is an account of the first night we moved Jonah into his big boy bed.
8:02- Put Jonah to bed.
8:04- Jonah has already crawled out of bed and opened the bedroom door requesting to go to sleep. I happily oblige and put him back in bed
8:06- After putting him back to bed, Jonah immediately leaves the bed again and opens door. Without saying anything, he is asked to go back to bed, at which point he closes the door and wanders around the room looking at toys.
8:08- Jonah repeatedly opens door. He slams the door back shut when asked to go back to bed. “Are you gonna go sleep in your big boy bed?” “Yep.” I'll believe it when I see it.
8:10- I put Jonah in bed and he immediately gets back out.
8:12- I put Jonah back in bed and he requests more light. No, that's reserved for daytime, son.
8:14- Jonah wanders around his room, plays with toys, then opens the door and reports finding "monsters and mike" (one of his Monsters, Inc. books). I put him in bed with the book.
8:21- Jonah opens the door and is told to close the door. He closes the door as much as possible without actually closing it, thinking I am fooled. I am not.
8:22- Jonah opens the door, then upon seeing me coming immediately slams it shut.
8:29- Jonah runs around his room like a crazy person saying "I can't go back to jail!" (a line from Monsters University, we don't actually imprison our child. Yet.)
8:48- Since last entry, multiple redirections have been made. During the most recent attempt to put him in bed it was discovered that he has littered the floor with toys. Sharp ones.
8:49- Jonah has now resorted to fake crying to get attention. Still not fooled.
9:19- Jonah opens the door and starts throwing pillows out of his room.
9:40- Jonah opens the door and puts his arm out, then closes the door slightly on his arm. As Stephanie approaches to put him back in bed he says, "Mama, I'm stuck!" Well I wonder how that happened.
10:18- When putting him back in bed and telling him he needs to go to sleep he defiantly said "no". The "no" promptly turned into a yawn. Gotcha.
10:50- Stephanie attempts to put him to bed. As she approaches the room he says, "Mama get me outta here!" She tries not to laugh and puts him back in bed. She is also not fooled.
10:52- After many more tries, his resolve seems to be wavering and he’s mostly staying in bed.
10:54- Jonah was presumed to be asleep, but he is now reaching headfirst out of the bed in a movement that can only be described as oozing. He was reaching down to bring a toy into his bed with him, it was a plastic wagon. His attempt to drag it into bed failed and it crashed to the floor, and he lays back down. Or so I think.
11:30- At this point he's pretty much asleep. Success?
As I'm sure you can imagine, things didn't magically start going smoothly the next night. Throughout the week, we've had several other amazingly funny comments from out big boy. Some favorites include "Daddy, want some oatmeal?" {at 9pm} and "Come on Daddy, let's go watch the TV!"
