Up All Night- The Growing Prysocks

Gideon's Nine Month Update

Sweet boy, you're 9 months old and I'm so excited about it.

This is such a fun stage. We're learning more about you and you're able to exhibit more and more of your personality.  You're also starting to interact with Jonah more and more {you think he's hilarious}, and it's such a joy to see.

You started CRAWLING this month.  Just days after your 8 month "birthday", you crawled about a foot.  Afterwards, we tried to tempt you to crawling farther, but you weren't really in to it.  You'd do your standard move of rocking on your knees and then stretching out on your belly instead.  However, about 10 days later, you just WENT for it.  All of the sudden you were crawling.  All over the place.  It's been so fun to watch you explore and move around!

It's also meant a whole new world for our family.  You'd think Daddy and I would remember this stage from when Jonah was tiny, but we're constantly surprised what type of things you find to investigate.  Your current favorite things are the peddles on the piano and anything that could harm you {outlets - which are covered. electric cords - which we've hidden. jonah's toys - which are everywhere.}

Whenever you hear Jonah but can't see him {like when he wakes up from his nap in the afternoon}, you giggle and start crawling after him, laughing the entire time.  It's adorable and one of my favorite things.  You love him so much and I pray that these sweet moments are indicative of a wonderful friendship and love between you two.

You're such a little boy.  You fling yourself after toys, race after your brother, play in dirt, and just generally have no regard for your little body.  If you want something, you go for it.  It's resulted in lots of bumps and bruises this month.  Especially since we have wood floors now.  I know it's just a hint of the things to come. I love your brave spirit and I so love being a mama to two little boys.

You've also learned to pull up by yourself this month! Tables, baby gates, curtains, people's legs...you're not too picky about what you'll attempt to pull up on.  You so want to be up and walking and just hate that certain things are out of your reach.  You're especially taken with things Jonah like's to play with it and often {unintentionally} thwart Jonah's attempts to build puzzles or play games when you pull up on the coffee table and grab everything in sight.

Still no teeth.  Still. No. Teeth.  You poor thing.  Several times, your gums have gotten so swollen and I can see those dang little teeth right under the surface.  But then the swelling recedes and the teeth disappear and you have to go through it all again a few days later.  I guess it's a blessing you get a little relief during those days in between?

You're still able to wear a few six month clothes, but seem more happy and comfortable in nine or 12 month outfits.  Until recently, you wore jammies 90% of the time, but we're dressing you in real clothes more and more.  That, combined with the less babyish options we have and you're looking like such a big boy now.

We had your nine month check-up last week and here are your stats: weight: 21 lbs 4 oz {76%}, height: 28.5 in {55%}, and head circumference: 46 cm {78%}.

We moved you into your nursery this month.  Just a few days before your nine month birthday, actually.  You're still transitioning from being so far away from Mama, but it seems to be going well.  Hopefully this will help you sleep better, as your sleeping has been a challenge this month!

Here's the milestone chart and where you are:

Mastered Skills (most kids can do)
1) Stands while holding onto something — Yes
2) Jabbers or combines syllables — Yes. You jabber all the time.
3) Understands object permanence — Yes.

Emerging Skills (half of kids can do)
1) Cruises while holding onto furniture — Yep! You dont do it every time you stand, but you CAN to it.
2) Drinks from a sippy cup — Yes. Although we sometimes have to help.
3) Eats with fingers — Yes. Mostly puffs at this point in time but you've tried to feed yourself a few other things if they end up on your tray.
4) Bangs objects together — Oh yes.

Advanced Skills (a few kids can do)
1) Plays patty-cake and peek-a-boo — We don’t really play either of those games, per se. But we do play “Where’s Gideon,” which is similar. You love that game and have tried to cover your face to “hide” a few times.
2) Says “mama” or “dada” to the correct parent — Sort of. You make the “mama” and “dada” sound a lot. You definitely say "mama" when you want me or are calling for me. You’ve said “dada” to your daddy, but you also say it when he’s not around, so it’s hard to tell.

Sweet baby boy, you are so loved.  You bring our family such joy and we could not be happier to have you in our lives.  We love to hear you laugh and all of us will do just about anything to elicit a smile or giggle.  I'm so curious as to how your little personality will develop throughout this year and the rest of your life.  I pray that God will use your sweet, easy-going attitude to bring glory to Him.  I love you, little love.  You're my favorite Gideon.
