Up All Night- The Growing Prysocks

Jonah's 17 Month Post

I'm having a hard time believing you're really 17 months old, Little Man.  Time has gone by so fast and I'm constantly amazed that you're no longer my baby but a sweet toddler instead.

This has been an interesting month for us. You were sick for most of it, which broke me and your daddy's hearts. You were diagnosed with Hand, Foot and Mouth AND a sinus infection this month. It meant extra snuggle time with Mama most days. But I know you felt miserable and it showed a few times through grumpiness and temper tantrums. You seem to be feeling much better and we're so glad.  We're hoping for a completely healthy December!

This month also market your second Thanksgiving ever! We hosted Thanksgiving at our house this year and your Grandma and Grandpa Thompson came down from Mississippi to attend.  Your Great-Grandma and Papaw as well as your Great-Aunt Linda came too. It was so much fun having them here and you loved all the attention.  You were quiet the little performer that day: you danced around for everyone and played so sweetly.

You added several new words to your vocabulary this month: blanket {bankie}, medicine {med-sin}, Jesus {geez}, cow {ow}, diaper {dah-pur}, bear {bay-er}, sheep {eep}, bat, cake {cack}, as well as Elmo {yah-yah}, Grover {go-ger} and Count {dat}--{clearly lots of sick time meant a LOT of Sesame Street for awhile}.  You're starting to say some of your words more clearly, too. For example, Beesly has moved from "bee" to "bee-zee and Daddy is "Dad-ee" instead of "Da-da."  You've even said two word sentences several time! You've said "Up, Mama" and Up, please" on a few different occasions.

You are quite the mimic lately, as well.  You try and say everything that we do and, as a result, also say things like rats {wats}, trash, and yucky {ucky}.  But only if we say it first.

As I said last month, you stopped nursing in October. Our bedtime routine has changed a little as a result.  We do dinner, bath and then as a family we read a Bible story {right now it's Advent using your Jesus Storybook Bible} and then your two normal bedtime books {On The Night You Were Born and The Going To Bed Book}. Then we say a prayer and you snuggle with me while I rock you for a few minutes before bed.  I think you've needed it since you've been sick lately and I love one last cuddle session with you before bed.

You get so excited when Daddy gets home these days and I love to watch.  We'll be playing and as soon as you hear the garage door, you make a bee-line to where Daddy always miraculously appears.  Sometimes he even takes you to go get the mail, which you love.  You like holding the mail key {and sometimes don't want to give them back!} and love looking at the leaves and acorns along the way.

You also still love to read.  Your favorites lately are The Haunted Ghoul Bus and your Jesus Storybook Bible.  You bring us your Bible several times a day to "read."  You don't quite have the patience to last through an entire story yet, so we usually look at the pictures and tell the stories as abbreviated as we can.  I love how much you love it and I pray that it's evidence of God calling you to Him.

You're wearing size 18 month clothes, mostly.  A few 12 month clothes still fit but are getting a little snug. You also have a few teeth still working their way through: seven total, I think {you really don't like us checking!}

You also have started saying "diaper" a lot lately.  We're not sure if it always means you need a new diaper, but we always treat it like it does {usually you actually do need to be changed}.  Hopefully that will help with potty training later on!

Mastered Skills (most kids can do)
•  Uses six words regularly - Oh yes.
•  Enjoys pretend games - He thinks it's funny when Mama pretends. Does that count?
•  Likes riding toys - Yes.
Emerging Skills (half of kids can do)
• Feeds doll - You don't really have any dolls.  But you have fed your Elmo and Count toys at least once. Mostly, though, you like to give your toys kisses!
• Speaks more clearly - Yes
•  Throws a ball underhanded - No. But he's been throwing overhand since he was 12 months
Advanced Skills (a few kids can do)
•  Dances to music - All. The. Time.
•  Sorts toys by color, shape, or size - No. But you did just start making matches with your Leap Frog Fridge Farm set.
•  Kicks a ball forward - Sometimes. We don't have a lot of those types of toys around, so you don't have as much of an opportunity.

Jonah, we love you so very much.  Your daddy and I are still so blown away that God trusted us with You.  You're a joy. You have such a fun sense of humor and love to laugh.  Daddy and I will do just about anything to hear you giggle and it always makes our day.  You are more and more inquisitive every day and we cannot wait to see how God uses that to glorify His Kingdom.  You're persistent and sweet and rambunctious and loving.
And we love you more than we could ever put in to words.
