Up All Night- The Growing Prysocks

Jonah's 19 Month Post

Filed under: , , , by: Stephanie

Another month has flown by and you're another step closer to being a two-year old.

This month has been marked by small successes. You've learned a ton of new words and have been putting them together for weeks.  Daddy and I understand what you're saying about 90% of the time.  Other people don't have quite the same success rate, but you're easier to understand each day.

We discovered "Word World" this month and you LOVE it. It honestly might have surpassed Elmo as your new love. You know all the characters and love dancing to the songs they sing.  You even laughed at a silly episode this month.  It was the first time you saw something that made you laugh without prompting from me or Daddy and I loved hearing it.

You've been loving saying "no" lately.  I don't think it always means "no." {You told your Daddy "no" when he offered you a cookie the other day.  That can't be right.} I think you like asserting your independence. Sometimes it gets you into a little bit of trouble and sometimes it makes us laugh.

You've been pretending and mimicking behavior a lot this month.  You grab brushes and combs to brush your hair, pretend to eat or drink things, and have recently started to pretend to feed some of your animals. It's pretty cute and a big difference from the beat-downs you used to give all your lovies.

This month has been a challenge for me because you've been into everything! You love to climb and have given me quite a scare a few times by perching on the back of the couch.  You also love to move furniture around and run all over the place.  In other words, you're an active little boy.

A few of my favorite Jonah phrases right now are: "Oh no!"and  "Stop, Beesly." It is completely adorable to watch you play and here you say "oh no!" while you're pretending.

You're mostly wearing 18 month clothes still {though you have a few 24 month pieces} and you moved up a size in your cloth diapers {large in gDiapers}. You also have SO many teeth now.  It's almost impossible to count because you don't like us looking, but we think you have about 10 teeth.

Thing Jonah Loves at 19 Months
Word World {especially the Spy Sheep episode: "Scramble!"}
Books {specifically your Sesame Street books about Big Bird and Cookie Monster}
Beesly
Looking at pictures of yourself
Hats {not actually wearing them, just taking them on and off.  And pretending everything is a hat}

Mastered Skills (most kids can do)
Uses a spoon and fork - oh yes. you still occasionally use your hands, but you have to have a spoon/fork with your meals or you grump about it.
Runs - yes yes yes.
Throws a ball underhand - honestly, you've only ever thrown a ball overhand. I suppose we could work on this?
Enjoys helping around the house - you love helping unload the dishwasher, feeding beesly, picking up your toys and "helping" with the laundry.

Emerging Skills (half of kids can do)
Understands as many as 200 words - yes.
Recognizes when something is wrong (e.g., calling a dog a cat) - yes.

Advanced Skills (a few kids can do)
Washes and dries own hands with help - you mimic me doing it, if that's what this means.
Points to picture or object when you call it by name - all. the. time.
May know when he needs to pee - you tell us when you need a new diaper, but not before quite yet.

Jonah, we love you so very much.  It's so much fun to learn more and more about you each day.  You're so sweet; you love being cuddled and kissed and are so quick to give hugs and kisses too.  You are a social little guy and loving seeing new people.  You always seem a little shy at first, but soon enough you invite everyone into the fold.  I'm excited to see how the Lord will use your sweet nature as you get older.  You can be pretty headstrong at times: you know what you want and aren't shy about asking for it.  This new personality trait has offered some unique learning opportunities for us both this month! But I'm also excited to see how God will teach us to cultivate that trait in you to glorify Him.
We adore you, Jonah Matthew.  We count ourselves so blessed every single day to be able to raise you.  We pray God takes a hold of your heart early in life and that you would love Him all of your days.
